3rd century AD and later. A bronze ring with plain hoop, flat bezel with later silver insert, engraved with Greek and Latin inscription 'IS X PIS' (= Jesus Christ) 'IN DIO' (Jesus Christ in God"). See Henkel, F., Die Romischen Fingerringe Der Rheinlande, Und Der Benachbarten Gebiete, Berlin, 1913, particularly table XLVI, no.1196. 7.93 grams, 21.93mm overall, 16.70mm internal diameter (approximate size British H, USA 4, Europe 6.18, Japan 6) (1"). Property of a gentleman from Vienna; from his private collection formed since 1970.
