WORKSHOP OF BENEDETTO BOSCHETTI (ITALIAN, 1820-1870), A MODEL OF A ROMAN OIL LAMP IN GIALLO ANTICO LATE 19TH CENTURY 15cm high, 17cm wide Provenance: The Simon Neal Collection This model of a Roman oil lamp, which is carved from a variety of Giallo Antico marble that has a distinctive pinkish hue, was perhaps made by the workshop of Benedetto Boschetti (1820 - 1870). During the middle decades of the 19th century, he was one of the most renowned sculptors making small scale models in coloured marbles, that were based on the antique prototypes. His atelier at 74 via Condotti was a popular tourist destination and appeared in guidebooks drawn up for the ever-growing number of well-heeled visitors to the 'Eternal city'.
