A Chinese Dehua kiln statue of Guanyin dating from the Ming dynasty. She is seated with her hands wrapped in her hooded robe. A lotus crown sits upon her head, and a ruyi necklace hangs around her neck. Guanyin sits on an incised pedestal, and she has a 3-character He Chaochun mark in the shape of a hulu gourd on her back. Dimensions are: 9 inches tall X 5 1/4 inches wide, 22.9 cm X 13.3 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There are firing cracks along the seams as well as a repair to the bottom of the robe. Provenance: From a Southern California collector. Similar examples of seated blanc de chine Guanyins can be found in museums such as the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm and in the National Palace Museum in Beijing (fig. 1).
