Gu Kaizhi (348~409), the character Changkang, the small character tiger head, the Han nationality, was a native of Wuxi, Jinling (now Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province). Outstanding painter, painting theorist and poet in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Because of his high accomplishments in literature and painting, people call him a master of painting, a master of writing, and a master of fascination. Gu Kaizhi is knowledgeable and talented, good at poetry, calligraphy, and especially good at painting. He was good at portraits, buddhas, animals, landscapes, etc., which people called the three marvellous: painting marvelous, literary martial arts and crazy martial arts. Xie An is serious about it, thinking it hasn't been there since life. Gu Kaizhi, Cao Buxing, Lu Tanwei, and Zhang Sengyou are collectively known as the "Four Great Masters of the Six Dynasties". Gu Kaizhi's paintings are intended to express the spirit, and his arguments such as "changing imagination" and "writing spirit in form" have laid the foundation for the development of traditional Chinese painting.
