An album containing a mid-19th century collection of autographs, clipped signatures and letters mainly comprising contemporaneous European royal figures and nobility including Queen Victoria, dating from 1841 until mid-1850s, and containing signatures from the Duke of Wellington, Viscount Palmerston, Francesco V, Duke of Modena, Leopold II, Grand Duke of Tuscany, Oscar II, King of Sweden, Charles-Louis, Duke of Lucca, Carlos Luis de Borb—n the Carlist pretender to the Spanish throne, Charles II, Duke of Parma, GŸnter Friedrich Karl II, Prince of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, Frederick Francis II, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Count Josip Jela_i_, Charles-RenŽ de Bombelles, John Ponsonby, Zacharias Dase, pasted down in a volume bound in half morroco with paper boards with embossed floral motif, along with a folder of more autographed letters, clipped signatures and receipts relating to autograph collecting, including names such as Clara Schumann, (qty) volume measures 22 x 32cm Condition: The album has some loose sheets, slight staining to page edges, boards rubbed and corners lifting, loose sheets enclosed in paper folder and some torn but all signatures clean The collector purportedly worked at Mivart's Hotel, the precursor to Claridges located on Brook Street, Mayfair, and was the hotel of choice for many British and European royals, dignitaries, diplomats and socialites.
