After arriving in Beijing, he entered the Ruyi museum about the first year of Yongzheng reign and became a court painter. Because he can draw and excel in architecture, he once participated in the construction of the Old Summer Palace. Most of the paintings are made on silk paper with Western painting method, slightly referring to Chinese and French, focusing on realism and resemblance. He taught the varieties and methods of European painting to Chinese court painters, made positive contributions to the exchange of Chinese and Western culture and art, and won the favor of the royal family.
