《宋书·符瑞志》曰：“甪端者，日行万八千里，又晓四夷之语，明君圣主在位，明达方外幽远之事，则奉书而至。”至明清，甪端作为祥瑞神兽，开始频繁出现在各种器物中，尤多见于熏炉、印章、门前雕像。此器为龙泉窑甪瑞香薰，甪端体态健硕浑圆，仰首傲立，双目圆瞪，炯炯有神，整体气势威严；其角如弓，头部可掀开，腹部中空，可作香薰使用，口张开，以便香味飘散；其面容、毛发、兽爪等细节刻画栩栩如生，线条流畅精细。釉色青绿，釉肥润而透明，釉面光泽度很强，滋润匀净，釉色绿中微泛黄，为典型的明代龙泉窑制品。
