兽面纹鼎式炉造型为仿古青铜器造型，据史料记载，三代古铜器中，鼎的造型随着时代的变化而异，商代前期多为圆腹尖足，商代后期和西周早期多圆腹柱足，西周中期鼎亦以圆腹柱足为多，但垂腹较宽，西周晚期，半球形腹带马蹄足。相比较而言，此件明代的铜局部鎏金嵌银丝兽面纹三足炉，应是以西周中期青铜鼎为原型，在明代仿古之风盛行的影响下所作之佳器。 此鼎选上等精铜铸造而成，铜质精炼，厚胎，颇为压手。唇口折沿，颈部略收，腹部圆鼓微垂，分档似袋，饰三扉棱出戟装饰，腹部通体铸造勾云纹及兽面纹。腹下承三高柱足，口沿上塑冲天环耳一对。整器造型稳重，工艺精湛细腻，纹饰精美，包浆浑厚，为文房大雅之器。
