Edgar Anderson (American, 1922-2015) and Joyce Anderson (American, 1923-2014) A Pair of Crafted Low Stools, circa 1980 Birch, walnut, rosewood, and maple 18 x 13 inches (45.7 x 33.0 cm) (each) Joyce and Edgar Anderson lived and worked outside Morristown, New Jersey, creating a compelling body of hand-made work from their entirely hand built home and studio, using locally sourced materials such as walnut, oak, birch and ash woods. Their work was exhibited in museums such as the American Craft Museum, New York, the Cranbrook Art Museum, Michigan and the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle. They were an active voice in the craft community participating in American Craft Council conferences. Their partnership was characterized by the thoughtful nature of their work: culminating from a demand for quality in materials, craftsmanship and the responsibility of the maker.
