Dale Chihuly (American, b. 1941) Large Early Seaform, 1982 White with black spiral and lip wrap, Glass 6-3/4 x 22-1/2 x 20-1/2 inches (17.1 x 57.2 x 52.1 cm) Etched Chihuly, 1982 to underside Property from a Private Collection, Baltimore, MD PROVENANCE: The artist; Louisa Chase, Providence, RI; Acquired directly from the above Louisa Chase, an accomplished and well regarded artist whose work is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York, amongst many others, befriended Dale Chihuly in the 1970s while they both had teaching positions at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence. In the early 1980s Chihuly was making his initial forays into his seminal Seaform series. This large, undulating platter-shaped sculpture was gifted by Chihuly to Chase.
