Description

Fairground Shooting Gallery Target, c. 1900 Weight-operated mechanical target "Boy steals apples and receives a beating", hand-painted sheet metal, size 19 ½ x 25 ½ in. Sheet metal and paint well preserved except for shot marks, mechanism rusty, missing weight, in part-working condition. - Mechanical shooting gallery figures were a popular fairground attraction from the 1870s-1920s. They were mostly made by gunsmiths who also supplied the rifles for the shooting stands. The shooter had to aim at the small round target, which triggered the weight-driven animated scene when it. Behind the targets, a showman's assistant was kept busy returning the mechanism to its original position. - Rare to find. Fairground nostalgia of museum quality! Jahrmarkt-Nostalgie in Museumsqualität! Start Price: EUR 350
