Attributed to Robert Emil Schulz (American, 1928-1978) The World Jones Made, paperback cover, 1956 Oil on board 23 x 17-1/2 inches (58.4 x 44.5 cm) (sight) Not signed From the Gary Munson Collection This illustration was used as the cover for The World Jones Made by Philip K. Dick (Ace Books, 1956). PROVENANCE: Previously from the Glynn and Suzanne Crain Collection. This illustration was published as the cover for The World Jones Made by Philip K. Dick (Ace Books, 1956). Dick's earliest novels were published in the renowned Ace Double paperback series, and these first edition cover paintings for the famed author are both very scarce and highly desirable. This painting has long been credited to Schulz by generations of art and paperback collectors, as well as Ace checklists such as the online Ace Image Library. However, the painting is unsigned and the book itself does not provide an artist identification, additionally, there are certain stylistic similarities to the work of other science fiction illustrators of the era.
