Watercolours attributed to Ronald de Saumarez (1881-1973) Royal Naval Officer, one time Commander, showing a bee bird, Nectarina bird, a Bombyx Luna moth, Accacia, Cartssa Carandas, Coffee, the Mantis Aridifolia, Nutmeg, Red Bead Vine and Vanilla, all these ten accompanied by beautifully composed verses describing the subject matter. Also, a fine stencil scene comprising a bird, knight or courier and a lady. This lot contains a further eleven small cards with watercolours of fruits or spices each accompanied by a few lines of title description. Note: Ronald de Saumarez was born in 1880 or 1881. He married Nora Frances Pasbach in 1947. He joined the Royal Navy and served as a midshipman in HMS Royal Arthur, from 1897. He promoted acting Sub-Lieutenant in HMS Blake, from 1901. He served as a Lieutenant in HMS Formidable, 1903-4, and HMS Psyche, from 1904. In 1908, he was placed on the retired list. He joined HM Naval Base, Holyhead, to plan offensive measures against submarines, March 1918. He was promoted to the acting rank of Commander and appointed Senior Naval Officer of the base, August 1918-19. He died at his home in East Molesey, Surrey, on 30th September 1973. Provenance: all were contained in an album marked N de S being Nora de Saumarez who as Nora Pasbach married Ronald de Saumarez in 1947, original purchased from Tennants.
