John McLeod: Voyage of His Majesty's Ship Alceste, Along the Coast of Corea to the Island of Lewchew an Account of Her Subsequent Shipwreck, London, John Murray, printed by W.Clowes 1818, second edition, with hand coloured lithographs including Islanders of Sir James Hall's Group, Corean Chief and Attendants, Lewchewan Chief and Attendants, Garden of the Temple at Lewchew, Fort Maxwell, having marbled boards with gilded title to spine. Sir Murray Maxwell (1775-1831), naval officer. Maxwell was Captain of the Alceste when it was wrecked in the Gaspar Strait, between the large islands Banca and Billiton, Indonesia. He and his crew managed to reach a nearby island and, despite repeated attacks by Malay pirates, The party returned home as heroes and Captain Maxwell was knighted for his service.
