Sir Murray Maxwell (1775-1831), naval officer. Maxwell was Captain of the Alceste when it was wrecked in the Gaspar Strait, between the large islands Banca and Billiton, Indonesia. He and his crew managed to reach a nearby island and, despite repeated attacks by Malay pirates, The party returned home as heroes and Captain Maxwell was knighted for his service.
