Attributed to Phillip A. Harrington (American, 1920-2009) Two Chinese Children, 1957 Gelatin silver print 13-1/4 x 10-3/8 inches (33.7 x 26.4 cm) (image/sheet) In 1957, Harrington entered China against a U.S. State Department ban on newsman entering the communist nation. The Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, threatened to jail Harrington, or at least revoke his passport. Harrington responded by sending a telegraph that the roads were washed out and he could not return. The articles produced from these images won Harrington and Edmund Stevens the George Polk award for magazine reporting. HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
