A Set of Ten William and Mary Style Oak Dining Chairs Edwards & Roberts, London, Late 19th Century each with a maker's label to the underside. Height 42 x width 18 1/4 x depth 17 1/4 inches. Property from the Collection of Mary Southworth, Lake Forest, Illinois Note: Founded in 1845, the London cabinet makers Edwards & Roberts flourished on Wardour Street throughout the second half of the nineteenth century. The 1854 edition of Kelly's Post Office Directory of London described the firm as both "antique and modern cabinet makers and importers of ancient furniture." Their use of the finest figured mahogany, burr walnuts, and light satinwoods secured their reputation as one of the premier furniture makers in Victorian London. Edwards & Roberts exhibited several of their Rococo and Regency style designs at the 1878 Paris International Exhibition, and a Regency style chair made in 1892 after an 1807 design by Thomas Hope resides in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
