JUGYOKU: AN INLAID EBONY WOOD NETSUKE OF A DEMON MASK By Ryukosai Jugyoku, signed Jugyoku 寿玉 saku 作 Meishun sha 明春寫 Japan, Edo (Tokyo), mid-19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Carved as a demon mask, the horns of stained stag antler, the eyes of hornbill (honen), and the teeth with silver lacquer. The details well-carved, as usual for this celebrated artist. The back with asymmetrical himotoshi and signature JUGYOKU saku Meishun sha [Copied from the original by Meishun, made by Jugyoku]. LENGTH 4.9 cm Condition: Good overall condition, some fine age cracks, one horn replaced. Provenance: European collection.
