A Chinese carved black cinnabar box dating from the 19th century. The lid of the round box features a landscape scene with Shou, an attendant, and a pine tree on an incised linear ground. The sides of the box are decorated with carved lotus tracery on a red ground. Dimensions are: 2 1/4 inches tall X 6 inches wide, 5.7 cm X 15.2 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There is chipping and loss of lacquer to the sides, especially around the rims of the lid and base. The interior lip of the base has a large chip. There is crackling to the lacquer on the interior of the lid and on the bottom of the base. There is minor separation to the lacquer layers and areas of loss to the top of the lid.
