PROVENANCE: Stanley G Martin (1938-2019) of Marietta, GA . Stan attended High school in Albany, graduated from the University of Georgia and then entered the navy for 3 years. They moved to Atlanta where Stan worked for 35 years in Market Research International Accounts. Mr. Martin traveled extensively often taking his family with him to visit and learn about foreign countries. Finding treasures and antiques from around the world was a benefit and a passion for his family. In his retirement years he enjoyed restoring antiques as well as early model automobiles back to their original condition. Potted with a shallow body, slight deep, thick and bulbous body, with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward flaring mouth rim, raised on a small round, with slight concave footing. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color, depicted eight medallion of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. Elegantly and smooth presented upon a carved hardwood stand with archaic ruyi pattern, created Majestic bowls. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. The under-base bears a reign mark, a vertical six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, Made in The Years of XuanDe Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.
