Measurements: Height: 12 cm, Diam: 12.8cm Chinese Ming Dynasty, Tian Mark, Doucai Qilin Porcelain Lidded Jar. Potted into jar shape, having thick and globular body heavy on shoulder, gently tapered on short neck with flat dome lid and raised on round foot base. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white base color which contrast against doucai design color, depicted of qilin flying careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves. Qilin are extraordinarily beautiful creatures, sparkling like gems and adorned in flames. Qilin are thought to be a symbol of luck, good omens, protection, prosperity, success, and longevity by the Chinese.The Under-base bears a reign mark, a single under glazed blue script characters reign mark.
