笔筒含光静穆，包浆醇厚自然。简身镌刻“盈盘珠玉天成端、象饰辉煌庆德光”联语，以刀代笔，刚劲有力。在坚如磐石的紫檀木上复现出柔湿毛笔在宣纸上笔断意连的效果，钩提点画，神韵毕现，令人瞠目。
故宫博物院藏有红木百宝嵌插屏，屏上字句，款识和笔筒字体如出一辙，不同之处为一个刀刻，一个螺钿镶嵌，二者字体应出自一人之手，红木插屏署“程文光制”印款，应是贡作之器，王世襄先生曾经对这种现象有过解释:“大凡竹木雕刻，与书画真迹只有一纸不同。倘从原迹勾摹两纸，由一手刻在两件之上，则两件价值相等，不存在原刻翻刻问题。”(王世襄《自珍集》228页)
