Anton Raphael Mengs (1728-95), a female nudeOil on canvas. A blonde nude on bare ground, the left hand in a flirtatious manner covering her face, a bunch of flowers in her right hand. On the far left a large gate, guiding the eye to a nightly landscape. On the bottom right signature "Raphl:Mengs". A few minor repairs, one slightly larger cut (restored) in the background. Carved and gilt wooden frame. Size 72 x 100 cm. Expert opinion by Gallery Heinrich, Regensburg, dated March 1991.Anton Raphael Mengs, a German painter, one of the most important pioneers of neoclassical painting. Son of Ismael Mengs, court painter in Saxony. Appointed first painter to Frederick Augustus II in 1749.
