Glynn Williams, British b.1939 - Mother and Child, 1991; bronze, edition of 7, signed with initials and numbered 'GW 4/7', stamped with foundry mark 'Fiorini London', 24.1(H) x 24(W) x 20(D) cm (ARR) Provenance: The Geoffrey and Fay Elliot collection. Provenance: Christie's, London, Post-War and Contemporary British Art, 22nd October 1997, lot 132; private collection, London; thence by descent Literature: Glyn Hughes, 'Glynn Williams' (exhibition catalogue), Bernard Jacobson, London, 1992, no.27 illus. p.87 Note: The artist was Head of Sculpture at the Royal College of Art from 1990 and then Head of Fine Art from 1995 to 2000. He has monumental pieces on public display, including a portrait of Lloyd George in Parliament Square and the Henry Purcell Memorial in Westminster. A similar 'Mother and Child' to the present piece but in monumental form is on public display at The Lawns in Lincoln. His works are in the collections of the Tate, The National Portrait Gallery and the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.Dust in the recesses. Minor wear to the edges. Some small water marks, but may be original to the casting process. Overall very good condition.
