乾隆一朝的工艺美术致力于新、奇、巧的艺术追求，此炉即为这一时代潮流下的产物。此炉风格独特，传世较少。分裆鬲式造型，但底部分裆已趋于平缓。平直口上折，原盖恰好嵌入，严丝合缝，与常见子母口设置正好相反，炉身母口，炉盖子口。直束颈，扁鼓腹，底出三短圆柱形小足，腹部饰狮首耳。器腹通景在乌铜地上走金装饰龙纹，笔触纤细，表现细腻。自古以来焚香品香一直就是文人居处斋阁不可或缺的清雅活动，此炉造型玲珑秀美，久经承传，作为焚香用器，亦可作祀神、供佛、熏衣等之用， 工艺繁复鼎新，颇具清廷造办处风格。
