signed CHENYUNZHANG, inscribed, and with two seals of the artist dated Bingxu year（1946） ink and colour on paper, hanging scroll Chen Shaomei (1909–1954) was a painter and an important artist. Born in Hengshan in the Hunan Province, by the age of 17, Chen had already established a reputation in the local arts scene. Throughout the course of his short but prolific career, he experimented in many techniques not previously common in Chinese paintings. His works are a blend of color and space, characterized by movement, veiled landscapes, and an interaction between people and nature.
