此件以和阗白玉雕就，细腻温润，玉色洁白，局部受红色沁。立体圆雕独占鳌头题材，主体鳌鱼雕作龙头鱼身，昂首翻腾，体型健壮，圆眼阔嘴，如意形鼻。额生双角，鳍尾如扇，金鳞层层叠叠。一童子骑伏于鳌鱼背上，面庞丰圆，五官琢刻精到，神情泰然。童子身着肚兜，体型丰满圆润，戴手镯及脚环，细节琢刻一丝不苟。独占鳌头出自元·无名氏《陈州粜米》楔子：“殿前曾献升平策，独占鳌头第一名。”原指科举时代考试中了状元，现泛指占首位或第一名。整器工料俱佳，是一件难得的清中期玉雕精品。
