款识：仿老莲居士笔，其源盖出于黄检校也。壬午春日，谢稚柳。 钤印：阿稚、柳白衣、迟燕草堂 说明：是作经谢定伟先生鉴定为真迹并附证书。 按语：谢稚柳的花鸟画初从陈洪绶入手，后入宋元之室，有“新宣和体”之称。而是帧《红叶小鸟》乃是其早期专拟陈老莲之作，连同书法，形神俱似。整幅画婉丽幽闲，有如一深婉绝俗的美人，略带一痕低怨之色，楚楚可念，细笔精工并不难，难的是笔墨所传出的风神独绝。王安石诗云“丹青难写是精神”，旨哉斯言。
