普賢菩薩是中國佛教的四大菩薩之一，象徵着理德、行德, 與象徵着智德、正德的文殊菩薩相對應，同為釋迦牟尼佛的左、右脅侍。此外，毗盧遮那如來、文殊菩薩、普賢菩薩被尊稱爲“華嚴三聖”。菩薩結高發髻，長耳垂，面相方圓，眼瞼低垂，神態慈祥，顯露慈悲法系，雙手擋胸結説法印，右腿彎曲，左腿伸展，舒坐于象背之上，上身飾璎珞，下身着長裙，衣紋簡潔。象身滿綴裝飾，鞍飾紋飾華美，其學得于行，而行之謹慎，穩重莫過于象，故普賢坐騎為象。
