Attributed to André Bouys (French 1656 -1740)Still life with fruit and bread on a tableOil on canvas80.5 x 97cm (31½ x 38 in.)Provenance:Private Collection, FranceThe painting is attributed to André Bouys, at the suggestion of Eric Turquin Expertise S.A., Paris, on the basis of its similarity in composition and style to other still lives by the artist. André Bouys was born in Hyères in southern France in 1656. He was a pupil of François de Troy in Paris, where he established his reputation as one of the foremost portrait painters of his generation, becoming a member of the French Academy in 1688. Although his principal occupation was as a portraitist, towards the end of his career Bouys specialised in still life pictures of tables laden with luxurious food, drink, and wares, of which the present lot is a fine example. Medium Oil on canvas
