Most were made in steel, being a rugged sports watch, but a few like this example were made in gold and some of those, predominantly for tax reasons, were made in 14K gold. This watch is made rarer still by the use of a black dial with gold subsidiaries which has the distinctive, printed in gold, spaced out Daytona. The movement is engraved ROW which was a designation given to the movements destined for the US market and is in line with it being 14K gold. The current lot is being offered by the family of a private and distinguished collector who had the normal plunge pushers changed for screw down pushers at some point to make it more water resistant adding to the charm of a well-loved timepiece.
