Circa 100-300 AD. A matching and beautiful set of Roman gold hoop earrings, each of a simple design with a closed hoop. The earrings feature a fine granular decoration. Granulation (from the Latin word granum, which means grain) is a goldsmiths technique whereby the surface of a jewel is decorated with small spheres of precious metal, named granules, according to a design pattern. Hoop earrings were a favourite among Roman aristocracy.
