Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Circa 900-1000 AD. A masterfully forged Viking iron spear head with leaf shaped blade, which is decorated with a long column of hatching decoration, the blade elegantly expands down to a handle which has a cylindrical hollow terminal which has been formed of inlaid gold. This spear would have been used by someone of high social standing due to the nature of the expensive gold inlay. Perhaps this was used by a Nobleman or someone of high political standing. Due to the nature of the material, it is likely this was a ceremonial spear used during burial. Size: L:300mm / W:45mm ; 200g. Provenance: From a private collection; previously was acquired from G. M. in London in 2017.
