China, c. 1920. Comprising two cups applied with a bamboo-shaped handle and engraved with floral reserves and two lobed saucers with a prominent stand rim, also engraved with floral designs. The inside of the saucers and the cup´s bases stamped with three hallmarks.
The marks read:
YUEDONG 粵東 [ABBREVIATION FOR GUANGDONG/KWANGTUNG]
ARTISAN WORKSHOP MARK: ZHONG XING 中興, Guangdong
RETAILER MARK: DA XIN 大新, Canton + Hong Kong
Condition: Very good condition with minimal surface wear.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
