A SILVER REPOUSSE `DRAGON´ BOWL
China, 1900. The attractive bowl embossed and engraved around the wall with a sinuous dragon, the whiskers applied. Stamped marks to the recessed base and underside, ‘TUCK CHANG’ (a popular retail silversmith of Shanghai,) and maker’s mark. A European dedication dated to October 29.1915 is incised in the outer walls.
Condition: Very good condition with expected surface wear.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
