A PAIR OF SATSUMA CERAMIC VASES
Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)
The two satsuma vases with flaring sides, rising to gently squared shoulders and a lipped rim, surmounted on wooden bases, finely decorated in bright enamels and gilt, to the interior with a township scene with many samurai and villagers inside a lobed reserve, the shoulder, and neck with a variety of brocade and geometrical patterns repeated on the foot.

Condition: Good condition with traces of wear and age to the enamels, one vase with a corner of the lip reattached, and the other vase with a crack to one corner of the foot.
