AN AMUSING PORCELAIN FIGURE OF DARUMA
Japan, early 20th century
The Zen patriarch humorously being disturbed in his meditation by a fly atop his forehead, his body shrouded by his long robe elaborately modeled with a design of lotus flowers and swirling clouds, the face showing a visibly perturbed expression as he likely would like to use the hossu (flywhisk) in his hand to shoo away the fly but would need to interrupt his meditation to do so.
