墨呈椭圆形，墨身龙生九子图，形神兼备，制作精细。面上部中心篆书“九子”二字；背中心竖书两行：“壬午年海阳方于鲁珍藏”，楷书阳识。九子墨系古墨名，古时祝贺婚礼用物，据《初学记》引汉郑众《婚礼谒文赞》：“九子之墨，藏于松烟，本姓长生，子孙图边。”
