Zhenji, a Taoist of Nanzhai and Taoran, was born in Changzhou (now Suzhou, Jiangsu Province) and the uncle of the painter Shen Zhou. He was good at poetry and writing, and was good at painting things. He took Dong Yuan's method for landscape painting, which was especially popular in the Yuan Dynasty. He and his younger brother Hengji (father of Shen Zhou) were very famous for their poems.
