Qing Dynasty Famille Rose Porcelain Tianqiuping Bottle Vase W/Handpainted Peach & Bat Designs (Has Qianlong Archaic Seal Mark) From a Vietnamese Royal Family - This magnificent vase has a globular body that rises to a tall cylindrical neck that flares slightly at the rim. The piece has an ornate asymmetrical design of peaches, bats, and has a poem on one side. Peaches are known as omens of longevity and harbingers of happiness, and flowering peach branches are believed to ward off evil. Peaches were widely ed to decorate imperial porcelain for preceding emperors. Bats are seen as benevolent becae "fu," the character for bat, is also the character for "good luck." Furthermore, since bats dwell in caverns, which are also the passageway to the realm of the Immortals, they represent longevity, as well as fertility. A vase similar to this piece and of the same period sold at auction in 2015 for 63,480,000 HKD, or 8,087,193 D. The bottom of the vase bears the Qianlong archaic seal mark in red underglaze. This piecees from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam).
