袁世凯（1859-1916），字慰廷，号容庵，别号容庵主人、牧野新农、洹上渔人、洹上钓徒等，室名纯一斋、暇瞩楼、养寿园，河南项城人。早岁参 乡试落榜，后投淮军吴长庆。后李鸿章荐为三品道员，任驻朝通商大臣，升为直隶按察使。戊戌变法期间，使六君子被杀，得慈禧宠信，累至军机大臣，成北洋军阀首领。武昌起义时，出任内阁总理，后窃取大总统职位。1915年与日本签订《二十一条》卖国条约。同年改民国五年为洪宪元年，准备即位皇帝。1916年在蔡锷护国取消帝制，6月6日病亡。
