A bronze tongue-shaped plate with a circular-section bar extension looped round to be a flat counter-plate to the reverse; two piercings for attachment rivets, one in place; decoration of an elongated chevron formed from offset opposed triangular punchmarks. Cf. Sedov, V.V., Finno-Ygri i Balti v Epokhy Srednevekoviya, Moscow, 1987, pl.111. 4.41 grams, 40mm (1 1/2"). Acquired in the 1990s. Old English collection. UK private collection. The fitting was one of a series worn vertically on the belt with the loop on the lower edge: it formed part of the spension mechanism for the wearers sword, knife and pouch. [No Reserve]
