A substantial copper-alloy strap end, the split end scalloped and still preserving two attachment rivets, panel of interlace to the body highlighted in silver, facetted animal head terminal with scratched snout and a scratched triangle on the forehead, the ears taking the form of a double chevron within an oval. 15.2 grams, 49mm (2"). From the late Alison Barker collection, a retired London barrister; from her collection formed 1960s-1990s. These late Saxon strap ends were in e during the period of the Viking invasions. The decoration and shape isparable to Thomas class A1axii.
