A carved stone ashlar with reserved quatrefoil motif to the dressed face within a reserved border; the central boss slightly domed, the radiating leaves with bilinear edges; re-dressed on one edge resulting in the partial loss of the design; probably southern English workman. 6.4 kg, 19.5 x 17.5cm (7 3/4 x 7"). Collection of the late Professor Charles Reginald Dodwell, Pilkington Professor of history of art and director of Whitworth Gallery, Manchester University 1966-89; and thence by descent.
