11th-12th century AD. A small gold spur of crescentic form, each terminal with open fastener loops, the external face decorated with foliage ornament, a curved; possibly Hungarian. Cf. Hampel, J., Alterthumer des Fruhen Mittelalters in Ungarn, erste Band Braunschweig, 1905, fig.632. 2.33 grams, 14mm high (1/2"). Collection formed in the 2000s. Property of an English gentleman. These small spurs were models for small ungulates, or possibly ed for hunting hawks. They preserved the shapes of the ancient models, and the foliage decoration of the typical Steppe horsemen belts and mounts. [No Reserve]
