Description
Translation provided by Youdao
19th century AD. A silver cross pendant with integral ribbed loop, expanding arms, the body decorated by dots on both sides. Cf. Pitarakis, B., Les Croix-Reliquaires Pectorales Byzantines en Bronze, Paris, 2006, items pp.374ff. 8 grams, 41mm (1 3/4"). Family UK collection, 1980s. UK art market. Property of a Surrey gentleman. The cross imitates the well known typology of pectoral crosses and enkolpia whose surface is decorated by dots, a characteristic visible on the crosses from Anatolia especially in the period between 10th and 11th century AD.
