These beaver pelt tokens are one of the few relics that can definitively be attributed to the Canadian fur trade; they were issued in the East Main district (E M on the tokens) to fur trappers for 'made' beaver skins in denominations of ?, ¼, ½ and 1 pelt as payment and they could be spent in the Hudson's Baypany stores; the 'N B' on the tokens was a die error and should be 'M B' for 'made beaver'.
