291-292 AD. Uncertain mint (Colchester?) Obv: IMP CARAVSIVS P F AVG legend with radiate, draped and cuirassed bt right. Rev: SALVS AVG legend with Sal standing left feeding snake rising from ground to left of altar and holding sceptre; small S - C to lower fields. RIC v(2), p.497, 396 variant (no mintmark and snake); Askew -; Sear 13709 variant (position of S - C"). 3.64 grams. By inheritance. Property of a Lincolnshire lady. The reverse to this coin appears slightly different from those described for the SALVS AVG types; it shares the detail of the snake rising from the ground to left of altar with Sear 13715 (but she does not hold a patera); a small S is clear to the lower left field below the altar with a faint C to right whereas Sear 13709 has the S - C across the upper fields; it seems to be a die variant. [No Reserve]
