A George IV painted wood truncheon, circa 1830, decorated with a Crown above GR and a cartouche for the HUND. / of / NANTWICH, and text for the Cheshire Constabulary verso, with a ribbed and line turned handle, 37cm longThe Cheshire Constabulary was formed on 20 April 1857. The Hundreds of Cheshire, as with other Hundreds in England, were the geographic divisions of Cheshire for administrative, military and judicial purposes. They were introduced in Cheshire some time before the Norman Conquest. Over the years, a number of later hundreds emerged, including Nantwich, all of which were in e by 1260.
