A FAMILLE ROSE ‘COCKEREL’ DISH, QIANLONG PERIOD
China, c. 1750. The shallow rounded sides supported on a short tapered foot, the interior finely painted in bright enamels with a cockerel standing on a lingbi rock in a garden with peonies and other flowers, encircled by a band with shaped reserves enclosing floral sprays against a turquoise diapered ground with peony flowerheads at the cavetto, the broad rim with a band of peonies and foliate scroll below a pink-ground band of scroll interspersed with flowerheads.
Provenance: UK trade.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and firing flaws, including pitting and dark spots. Few tiny frits to rim, minor rubbing to enamels.
