signed HEQINGTAI, inscribed, and with one seal of the artist ink and color on silk, hanging scroll He Qingtai (1735-1814), formerly known as Louis Poirot, came to China in 1770 (the 35th year of Emperor Qianlong). He was a French, Catholic Jesuit missionary. He once studied in Italy and was proficient in heaven literature and mathematics. He Qingtai is good at landscapes, figures and animals. He was ordered to make oil paintings. There are few surviving works.
